You guys may or may not be aware of what a canvas ‘wash’ is but if you aren’t it’s a light colour you apply before painting directly on a canvas. The colour of the canvas you paint on will determine the overall pallet your working with. Many people dive in and work directly onto white, but if you work on a warm colour (i.e. a faint orange) your overall image will have a ‘warm’ feel to it, because you’ll be comparing every colour you pick to that faint orange (rather then a neutral white). if you work onto a cool colour (i.e. a light green or blue) your picture will look a lot ‘cooler’ or possibly even a little ghostly.
Why not try and experiment with these colours to see how making them your canvas base changes the colour scheme of your finished work.
